Iran’s Kurdish footwear en route to global recognition

Much sought-after traditional Kurdish footwear is set to be registered globally, head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism department in western Iranian Kurdistan Province says.

Seyyed-Mohsen Alavi was quoted by the media on Wednesday as saying that “Marivan city has been selected as the national city of “Klash” or the Kurdish footwear and the nomination dossier for global registration is prepared.”

“We are seeking to register” the footwear as “global brand,” Alavi also said.

Klash is hand-made Kurdish shoes from commonly found in Iran Kurdistan province. The centuries-old Kurdish craftsman tradition requires several hours to make one pair of the shoes by hand.
